Show of Force

"Show of Force" is a large diptych and contemporary parody in the style of Roy Lichtenstein’s "Whaam!". In "Show of Force" it is the heroine Princess Leia holding a controller and pushing a button to blow up the villain Darth Vader’s Death Star. This role reversal challenges our opinions regarding debates over bombings, drones, war and the off-the-cuff justification for simply blowing things up. The paintings of "Whaam!" and "Show of Force" present powerfully charged scenes in an impersonal manner, leaving the viewer to decipher the implications for themselves.
