Richard Erdman

b. 1952 , Dorset, VT

Richard Erdman’s prolific body of work encompasses a range of media from intimate maquettes to massive monumental works. Known for his forward-thinking, modern adaptations of marble and bronze sculptures in graceful, flowing designs, Erdman’s massive marble sculptures can weigh up to 50 tons, seemingly defying gravity and bringing warmth and light to their resilient stone bodies.

Inspired by the nation’s oldest marble quarries in Dorset, Vermont, Erdman’s appetite for adventure and reverence towards nature inform his practice significantly and are often reflected in the scale, materiality and raw natural energy of his towering, elegant sculptures.
