Camille Seaman

b. 1969

Camille Seaman is a celebrated photographer best known for her documentation of the fragile environment of the Polar Regions. For months at a time, Seaman has travelled to Arctic Regions such as Greenland and Antarctica to photograph icebergs. Her perception of the natural world is deeply informed by her Native American ancestry – specifically of the Shinnecock tribe – particularly through the philosophy that the natural elements are not merely objects but individuals with distinct features and personalities. Using digital and film cameras, Seaman approaches each image like a portrait, “much like family photographs or [her] ancestors. [She seeks] a moment in the life in which [the icebergs] convey their unique personalities.’  Through her work, Camille Seaman aims to convey the interconnectedness between man and nature
