Conceptual artist, John Baldessari, known for juxtaposing text with images, influenced this piece. Baldessari's points and directs one toward specific selections and comparisons within his work, stimulating the viewer to consider new perspectives. The young boy in my piece depicts Antoine Doinel from the 1959 film, The 400 Blows, an exposé of the injustices of the treatment of juvenile offenders in France at the time. My piece suggests a more hopeful possibility. The striking young man is dressed as a young James Bond, virtually every young boy’s ideal protagonist - composed and ready to launch into a life of adventure. The books have been left blank so that the piece can be personalized with the works that have inspired the buyer in his/her life.
